Adding New Custom Fields

LearnCenter includes a standard set of data collection fields for Users and various learning objects such as Courses, Classes, Enrollments, Chat Rooms, and Electronic Signatures. However, your organization may need to collect information that is not currently supported by the standard fields available in LearnCenter. LearnCenter enables you to add custom fields for this purpose. You can add custom fields for the following. LearnCenter object types.

  • Users
  • Forums
  • Training Offerings
  • Courses
  • Virtual ILT Sessions
  • Electronic Signatures
  • ILT Sessions
  • eCommerce
  • External Training
  • Classes
  • Job Profiles
  • Groups (only available if you are using the Dynamic Groups functionality)
  • Enrollments
  • Test Instances
  • Roster
  • Chat Rooms
   

You can use these custom fields as filters for reporting purposes.

Custom User fields can only be used in Reports added in this LearnCenter.

On the ControlPanel:

  1. Click on the Options menu to expand it.
  2. Click Custom Fields.
  3. Select the appropriate Item Type from the drop-down list.
  4. Click Add [Item Type] Custom Fields.

The first time you visit this page, one blank field is available for you to begin. By default, the field type is a text box, but you can select another type from the New Field drop-down list in the Edit panel. You can also add more than one field at a time by clicking Custom Field in the Custom Fields panel as many times as you need. Also, notice that in the Preview panel of the page you can see an example of how your field will look.

  1. In the Custom Fields panel, type the label you want to display next to the drop-down list in the Name field. This is the label that will display next to the field wherever it is used. Maximum of 255 characters allowed.
  2. In the Edit panel, select a field type from the New Field drop-down list. Depending on the field type you select, the remaining fields on the page vary. Each option’s related fields are described in the following steps. You can add the following types of fields:
CollapsedText Boxes
CollapsedPassword Fields
CollapsedDrop-Down Lists
CollapsedList Boxes
CollapsedCheck Boxes
CollapsedRadio Buttons
